Transportation

Non-Emergency Transportation Now Covered by Medicaid

Starting March 1, 2024, VNS Health Total (HMO D-SNP) will no longer cover transportation as part of your benefits. This won’t affect any of your other benefits.

Important: If you have a medical emergency and need an ambulance, always call 911.

How to Schedule Transportation

To arrange non-emergency medical transportation, you or your provider must contact the Statewide Transportation Broker, Medical Answering Services (MAS):

  • Online
  • Call 844-666-6270 (New York City, Long Island, Westchester, and Putnam counties), Monday–Friday, 7am–6pm
  • Call 866-932-7740 (upstate), Monday–Friday, 7am–6pm

If you require non-emergency transportation by ambulance because of a medical condition, please call Modivcare at 1-877-718-4220 (TTY: 711), 7 days a week, 8 am–8 pm.

If possible, you or your provider should contact MAS at least three days before you need transportation. You should provide the following details:

  • Appointment date, time, address
  • Provider’s name
  • Medicaid identification number
  • Any special needs (if you use a wheelchair)

Go to the New York State Department of Health Transportation page for more information.
